No tax in WA if you live in BC or ONT!!

I am preparing to launch the MrsSmith-ExtremeShopper USA edition very soon and this is the class for you if you live in Canada but are close enough to the US border to warrant shopping across the border, or if you are living in the USA. The majority of the class will be based towards stores found in Western WA but I will also be referencing other stores found in other parts of the USA.

I have great news for you whether or not you are a frequent shopper across the border. As of July 1, those of us living in BC and Ontario will get tax-exempt status while shopping across the border! And to think we have the HST to thank for this break. You will probably have to show your driver's license as proof of residency.

Now, I'm not advocating shopping in the USA vs Canada. I believe that is up to each person to decide how and where to spend their dollars. How the BC and Ontario governments react to this might differ, from doing nothing (no changes) to perhaps upping the tax on whatever you bring back, or lowering the minimums on exempt goods... we shall see. I will still shop for the majority of my items in Canada since I am not that close to the border, and will probably continue my once-a-month shop across the border.

Here's the article that talks about the new tax break.

Bernardin Shopping Spree contest

I love canning, and I love having canned fruits and vegetables to last me throughout the year. Admittedly, I have not canned in a couple years because I lost my canning pot and haven't had a chance to replace it, but I might be able to, because Bernardin is sponsoring its 6th Annual Shopping Spree contest and giving away 10 $1,000 shopping sprees!

Buy your specially marked cases of Bernardin Mason Jars and fill in the entry form here. Please read official rules for details of entry and the specific item that qualifies you to enter.

Canada only.

And, if you're new to canning, or haven't done it in a while, or just want a good reference/FAQ to canning, here's an indepth FAQ that Bernardin has written up.

Orange Julius BOGO

I found a Buy One get 1 coupon on the Orange Julius site, but am not sure if it is valid in Canada, so ask your local branch first if the coupon is good there, before ordering.

And while you're on the OJ site, join their Quench Club, I joined a while back and have been enjoying several coupons for BOGO or even FREE smoothies! Yum.

Costco - Home Event Contest 2010

Nowadays I hardly shop at Costco although MrSmith still loves roaming its wide aisles filled with bulk-packaged products, and I admit, I also like going for a cheap lunch there at times with the kids. :)

- 25 P&G Baskets (approximate retail value of $100 each)
- 1 $500 Costco cash giftcard
- 1 $1000 Costco cash giftcard

Stocking up my pantry and freezer for less

Extreme Shopping can be used towards stocking up your pantry and freezer as well, and yesterday was one of those days where I had to take advantage of some great sales and coupons to get some food at a significant discount.

One of the best things about Extreme Shopping is that some months, I don't need to buy certain items such as meat because I might have bought them the previous month at a huge discount. I did not buy any meat at all for the month of May, and I'm pleased to report I still have about 3/4 box of chicken left in my freezer, but I just could not pass up the great pricing on the chicken at No Frills.

The items in the picture above would have cost about $110 without sales and coupons.
